Our Journey in Financial Education
Seven years of building Canada's most trusted budgeting education platform, one milestone at a time
The Beginning
oravellithan started as a weekend project when our founder noticed friends struggling with basic budgeting concepts. What began as simple spreadsheet templates shared among colleagues quickly evolved into something much bigger.
- First budgeting calculator launched with 50 users
- Basic debt tracking tools developed
- Community forum established with 12 founding members
- Registered as official Canadian education platform
Major Growth
The pandemic changed everything. Suddenly, thousands of Canadians needed practical budgeting help as economic uncertainty hit households across the country. We expanded rapidly to meet this unprecedented demand.
- Platform reached 15,000 active learners
- Launched comprehensive course library
- Partnered with three major Canadian credit unions
- Won Provincial Excellence in Financial Education Award
Today & Tomorrow
We've helped over 75,000 Canadians build stronger financial foundations. But honestly, we're just getting started. The next chapter focuses on making budgeting education accessible to every Canadian household.
- 75,000+ learners across all provinces
- Mobile app launching September 2025
- French language courses coming October 2025
- First international expansion planned for 2026
The Story Behind oravellithan
Why We Started
Back in 2018, Marcus was helping his sister navigate her first apartment budget. She had a good job but couldn't figure out why money always ran out before the month did.
After creating a simple tracking system for her, word spread. Soon, coworkers, friends, and family members were asking for similar help. That's when we realized something important was missing from traditional financial education.
Most budgeting advice felt either too complicated or too basic. We wanted to create something practical that actually worked for real Canadian lifestyles and expenses.
Marcus Chen
Founder & Education Director
"Good budgeting isn't about restricting your life. It's about making your money work better so you can live the life you actually want."
Looking Ahead
Our mission remains simple: make budgeting education accessible, practical, and actually helpful for Canadian families. We're not interested in get-rich-quick schemes or complicated investment strategies.
Instead, we focus on the fundamentals that create lasting financial stability. The boring stuff that actually works.
